Children’s Sleep and Beauty Counter?

Why have I added Beauty Counter to Peaceful Sleep Solutions? What do personal care products have to do with children’s sleeping habits? There may not be a direct correlation but I have a passion for reducing our exposure to toxic substances. I have recently been dealing with exposure to toxic mold and the negative health effects that have come along with this exposure. We are all exposed daily to toxins from our cars, our furniture, mattresses, food, water and the products we put on ourselves and our children. Why does this matter? For many chemicals, a single exposure is unlikely to cause serious harm, but over time, small doses add up. The lipstick we wear, the food we eat, and the soap we use to clean our children’s hands often contain harmful chemicals can enter our bodies, hide away in our bones or fat, and build up over time. To make matters even more complicated, some chemicals can be more harmful in combination with other chemicals. The impacts of these chemicals may not be apparent for years.

We are all getting sicker as our exposure to toxic chemicals increases and children are even more vulnerable. There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today. Many don’t have any safety data. This is particularly true of those used in the skin care and beauty industry. What’s worse is that the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics in the United States) allows companies to use chemicals known to be extremely harmful in the products we put on our bodies and on our kids’ bodies every single day.

I joined Beauty Counter because they have a list of over 1,500 chemicals that they will “never” use because they are harmful or questionable when formulating their products. But beyond that, Beauty Counter is taking action in Washington DC by reforming legislation, oversight, and regulations.

As parents and as rapidly growing children and babies, we need to be getting a full night’s sleep. Our immune system works hard to protect us, especially while we sleep, so let’s support our bodies by sleeping well and reducing chemicals. From skin care to household cleaners to food, reducing exposure to toxic chemicals matters. By making a few simple changes, you can keep your family healthier.

If you have products you love already just make sure they are safe by checking them on this website www.ewg.org.

Peaceful Sleep Solutions | Sleep Consultant in Boston

Sometimes when you are struggling with your child’s sleep you may feel helpless. You may feel that you should be able to get them to sleep better. You may feel judged by your family or friends, they may not want to hear about the problems anymore. Sometimes sleep issues can cause marital stress and there is always some level of stress involved! Most families who contact me are feeling desperate, exhausted and want answers to solve their child’s sleep issues. Please contact me with any questions if any of this sounds familiar to you!

Child, Toddler and Baby Sleep Consultant in Boston

I am often asked, what exactly do you do when you help families with their child’s sleep problems? What does it entail? Does the child just cry and cry and finally fall asleep? Do you go to a family’s house and help them put their child to bed? Is sleep coaching the right choice for my family?

When a family comes to me because their child has sleep issues I take a detailed look at their child’s 24 hour schedule as well as any key issues from birth to the present that may help give me a clearer picture of the child’s personality, health and behavior (both asleep and awake). All of these come into play when creating a sleep coaching plan. I have a consultation with the parents where we discuss their child and their goals for sleep. We discuss the detailed history form that they have filled out as well as any concerns or questions. I create a customized plan that the parents feel comfortable with and will be able to follow through with as well as one that I feel will be effective. The parents implement the plan themselves and I have daily calls with the family during the 1-2 weeks of sleep coaching as well as email support. I review sleep logs, trouble shoot new issues and make adjustments to the plan as needed. Most parents are grateful for this continued support and it is often the key to their success!

When most people think of sleep training a baby or child they assume there will be a lot of crying. While there does tend to be some crying, the method I recommend if far more gentle on both the child and the parent. I was trained by Kim West, The Sleep Lady, and her method know as the “Sleep Lady Shuffle” is more gentle than the extinction or graduated extinction methods. You stay with your child and provide verbal and physical reassurance as they learn the skill of putting themselves to sleep. You gradually move away from their crib or bedside as they perfect the skill.

Is sleep coaching right for you? Can’t I just read a book and follow the steps? Will your child grow out of their sleep problems?

Sometimes reading a book is all a family needs to get their child’s sleep on track, but other times a family needs a customized plan and personalized support. Often I see families that are just too exhausted to read a book and try to implement something themselves. Children are not likely to out grow their sleep problems. Sometimes there is a medical issue that the parent’s are unaware of, something subtle that can be affecting their sleep and other parts of their life. Many sleep problems are behavioral and will need to be addressed to stop the current pattern of behavior.

Please contact me if you are interested in learning more. I would love to help your child and your family get consistent restorative sleep!

Welcome to Peaceful Sleep Solutions

Welcome to my updated website and blog which I plan to keep current.

My name is Anne Grier and I became a certified gentle sleep coach to help tired parents learn ways to teach their children to sleep. I am a registered nurse who has spent much of the last 8 years home with my children. I am excited to be working again with parents and children again as I did as a pediatric RN. My passion is to help parents be the best parents they can be which includes getting a good night’s sleep. And, of course, children need good quality sleep and rest to grow and thrive and remain healthy. Peaceful Sleep Solutions, LLC is here to help families struggling with sleep issues. Most children have them one time or another. Some are born not sleeping well and others sleep well until something happens in their lives. Through a detailed history I analyze your unique sleeping problems and create a solution that you feel comfortable implementing. The key to success is consistency so your comfort in the solution is very important! I support you through new issues, set backs and any other questions that arise while sleep training.

Do I recommend that you lay your baby down, leave the room and let them cry it out? NO! My methods were created by Kim West, The Sleep Lady. A licensed social worker, mother and author of the book Good Night, Sleep Tight. I am certified through her gentle sleep coach training program so the methods we suggest are far more gentle. You will not have to leave your child to cry it out. Although tears are likely to occur, you can stay with your child and reassure them verbally and physically. You and your child will feel far less stress with you present.

Please contact me with any questions. I offer a free 15 minute consultation to see if sleep coaching seems right to you. I look forward to hearing from you.
